Leaders of S. Korea, Latvia Discuss N. Korea

Leaders from South Korea and Latvia have discussed cooperating on North Korea policies as well as bilateral matters.

During a summit meeting with Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis at the presidential office in Seoul on Tuesday, President Moon Jae-in noted the improvement of the inter-Korean relationship on the occasion of the Winter Olympics being hosted by the South.

Emphasizing the need to carry on the momentum between the two Koreas so that conditions could be created for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, Moon urged the international community, including Latvia, to show interest and support for Seoul’s engagement with Pyongyang.

Noting the first visit to South Korea by a Latvian president since the formation of their diplomatic ties in 1991, Moon expected bilateral relationship will further develop following the summit.

Vejonis thanked Moon for his warm welcome, and suggested the two countries further cooperate on trade, investment and in other areas.
