Moon: US, N. Korea Feel Need to Talk One Another

President Moon Jae-in says both the U.S. and North Korea appear to recognize the necessity to talk with each other.

During a summit with Slovenian President Borut Pahor at Seoul’s presidential office on Tuesday, Moon assessed the current relationship between Washington and Pyongyang, calling both sides’ apparent openness toward one another “fortunate.”

Moon said South Korea will work so that inter-Korean dialogue created through the occasion of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics will lead to dialogue between the U.S. and the North and to the resumption of talks on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. He also called for Slovenia’s assistance and support for Seoul’s efforts.

In return, the Slovenian president said he sees hope in Moon’s policy of solving the problem without force.

He said he wholeheartedly supports Moon’s courage and resolution on seeking dialogue with the North, adding a hard-line policy toward Pyongyang would only raise the international community’s concern.
