Cheong Wa Dae: Trilateral Summit to Focus on Cooperation on Panmunjeom Declaration

South Korea’s presidential office says the leaders from Seoul, Tokyo and Beijing will focus their upcoming meeting on trilateral cooperation to help implement the Panmunjeom Declaration.

President Moon Jae-in’s special economic adviser Kim Hyun-chul revealed the plan in a meeting with reporters, five days ahead of a planned summit between Moon, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to be held in Tokyo.

Kim said during the three-way dialogue, Moon will brief the Chinese and Japanese leaders on the outcomes of the inter-Korean summit.

They are also expected to discuss trilateral cooperation on the implementation of the agreements made during the landmark Seoul-Pyongyang summit as well as measures to realize the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and establish lasting peace in the region.

The official added that the three countries have also been discussing a plan to adopt a special statement during the trilateral summit, separately from a joint three-way declaration, to express the three leaders’ unified support for the inter-Korean summit.
