Army General Robert Abrams Likely to Become New USFK Chief

The commander of the U.S. Army Forces Command Robert Abrams will most likely become the new chief of the U.S. Forces Korea(USFK).

A security source in Washington told Seoul-based Yonhap News on Wednesday that the four-star Army general is likely to replace the commander of USFK, UN Command and South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command Vincent Brooks.

If his nomination is confirmed by the Senate, Abrams is likely to take up his new post around August.

According to the source, the usual tradition has been for the incumbent and incoming USFK commanders to jointly participate in the Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercises conducted by South Korea and the U.S. in August and turn over duties.

Abrams is the third son of Creighton Abrams who served as the chief of staff of the first and ninth Army Corps during the Korean War.
