Moon Stresses Peace on Korean Peninsula, Cooperation with India

President Moon Jae-in has expressed his hope for close cooperation between South Korea and India to help bring about peace on the Korean Peninsula and ensure a better future for both countries.

Moon made the remarks in an interview with Indian newspaper Times of India, published on Monday.

The president, who arrived in India on Sunday for his four-day state visit, called for joint efforts to establish peace on the peninsula, adding that it will greatly contribute to peace and prosperity in South Asia.

He also said that the possibility of economic cooperation between South Korea and India is “limitless”, saying that he hopes to see a further expansion of cooperation in the manufacturing, infrastructure and advanced technology sectors.

Moon said that India is South Korea's key partner in its New Southern Policy, which seeks coexistence and co-prosperity of South Korea and Southeast Asian nations.

He said that as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also has stressed the importance of cooperation with South Korea while pursuing his Act East Policy, he hopes the two nations will discuss diverse projects to maximize their cooperation during his state visit.
