South Korea and the United States have agreed to boost their comprehensive combined defense posture to counter North Korea’s missile threats and maintain the current level of U.S. forces in South Korea.

The two sides unveiled such agreements during a joint statement issued after their foreign and defense ministers held their second round of talks in Washington on Thursday.

The two countries also decided to set up a consultative body to discuss ways to jointly counter the North’s cyber security threats, including jamming Global Positioning System (GPS) signals.

In the statement, Seoul and Washington expressed deep concern over the North Korean people’s safety and human rights conditions and urged the North’s government to respect the human rights of the North Korean people.

The ministers of the two countries said the issue of extending the range of South Korea’s ballistic missiles was not discussed during the talks and only said that the two countries will continue to hold working-level discussions on the matter.
