China Views Envoy Visit as Starting Point to Better Relations

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has expressed strong anticipation over the visit of a special envoy of South Korean President Moon Jae-in, viewing it as a new starting point to improve bilateral relations.

In a Thursday briefing, ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said that President Moon's dispatch of envoy Lee Hae-chan to China not long after his inauguration shows that Seoul values enhancing relations with Beijing. She said China also has high regard for bilateral ties with Seoul.

Envoy Lee arrived at Beijing Capital International Airport on Thursday and was greeted by Chinese Ambassador to Seoul Qiu Guohong.

He will meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday and has talks scheduled with President Xi Jinping and State Councilor Yang Jiechi on Friday.
