2 US Aircraft Carriers May Join Joint Drill in East Sea

A South Korean military official said Friday the USS Carl Vinson and Ronald Reagan are seeking to take part in a joint naval drill for several days some time next month in the East Sea. The official said the South Korean Navy's participation in the possible drill is under review.

If it takes place, it will be the first time for two U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carriers to join a combined drill in waters near the Korean Peninsula.

The USS Carl Vinson was deployed to the East Sea late last month and is currently conducting a joint exercise with the South Korean Navy.

The United States and South Korea regularly conduct drills aimed at suppressing North Korea's nuclear, missile, and conventional military threats.
