'China Mentions Efforts to Ease THAAD Retaliation'

China has suggested to visiting South Korean envoys it is willing to work towards easing retaliation for Seoul's decision to deploy THAAD missile defense.

Ruling Democratic Party lawmaker Shim Jae-kwon is part of a special envoy delegation sent by President Moon Jae-in to Beijing.

He told reporters Friday Chinese State Councilor for Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi expressed China's awareness of South Korea's concerns, and said Beijing plans to "exert active efforts" on the matter.

Shim said China plans to review South Korea's concerns about retaliatory measures related to Lotte Group as well as a suspension in chartered flights and tourist and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

He said Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of Seoul-Beijing ties and their contribution to peace in Northeast Asia.
