Chinese Envoy to US: Secondary Boycott Unacceptable

Voice of America has cited the Chinese envoy to Washington as saying that putting secondary boycott sanctions on Chinese firms is applying domestic U.S. law on China.
According to the U.S. international broadcaster, Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Cui Tiankai gave this opinion during an annual conference by the Washington-based civic group the Institute for Central American Studies(ICAS) held Tuesday.
The ambassador said that secondary boycott sanctions are unacceptable to the Beijing government. Secondary boycott refers to sanctioning individuals or firms of a third country that conduct trade with North Korea. He also expressed China's opposition to the THAAD antimissile system deployment in South Korea.
He said the secondary boycott issue has had a great impact on cooperative ties between China and the U.S. regarding the North Korea problem.
He pointed out that Washington's true intentions will increasingly come under scrutiny but added the two countries' goals are not different when it comes to Korean Peninsula affairs.
Meanwhile, according to Radio Free Asia, Zhu Feng, director of Nanjing University's School of International Relations who also attended the conference, called on the U.S. and China to draft a joint contingency plan related to the possibility of a military clash over the North Korean nuclear issue.
