China Confirms N. Korean Delegation's Visit

The Chinese government says the ongoing visit to China by a North Korean delegation is designed to let them observe China's economic reforms.

Beijing's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lu Kang made the remark during a media briefing on Tuesday, confirming the reported visit by a group of high-ranking North Korean officials following a second summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un early this month.

He said a “friendship” group led by high-ranking officials of the North’s ruling Workers’ Party began their visit on Monday at the invitation of the international department of the Communist Party of China, adding it's a specific follow-up to achieve the joint stances reached by Xi and Kim.

The delegation led by Pak Tae-song, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party, arrived in Beijing on Monday and visited Zhongguancun in Beijing, which is known as "China's Silicon Valley.”

On Tuesday, they visited the Agricultural Information Institute at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and exchanged views with senior academy officials.
