S. Korea's, Singapore's Energy Ministers Discuss Cooperation

South Korea's Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy is in Singapore to explore cooperation between the two countries.

According to the South Korean ministry, Minister Paik Un-gyu’s two-day visit was arranged to expand the Moon Jae-in administration’s New Southern Policy to the city-state, calling Singapore an opinion leader and a key member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN).

Paik held a meeting with his Singaporean counterpart Chan Chun Sing on Tuesday and agreed to make joint efforts to respond to the fourth Industrial Revolution and cooperate on liquefied natural gas(LNG) and free trade.

The two ministers also agreed that South Korea’s innovative growth initiative and Singapore’s Smart Nation project are preemptive efforts to respond to the fourth Industrial Revolution and decided to focus their cooperation on the autonomous vehicle sector.

They also saw eye to eye on the necessity to shift from traditional energy sources to renewable energy and to launch specific discussions on cooperation on new energy areas, including smart grid.
