U.S. Nuclear Envoy Expresses Hope for Dialogue with N. Korea

Glyn Davies, the top U.S. nuclear envoy, has expressed hope that the North will soon be ready to hold dialogue, not only with the United States, but all six party members.

Davies made the remark to reporters Tuesday evening following his meeting with his South Korean counterpart Hwang Joon-kook in Seoul.

Regarding the three detained Americans in the North, the U.S. envoy said that it is an important matter and that Washington has sought ways to hold talks with Pyongyang over the issue, but that the North doesn’t seem to be ready.
He said the U.S. is open to diplomatic engagement with the North and that Washington has sought ways to have high-level officials visit the nation to hold talks with Pyongyang, but that the North has chosen to reject the U.S. proposal.
He said he hopes North Korea will listen to concerns raised by South Korea, China and the United States, but he can't foresee whether it will do so in the future.

He added, however, that the U.S. will continue to engage with the North through meaningful dialogue.
