South Korea’s spy agency says that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has recently had doctors remove a cyst from his ankle.
Rep. Lee Cheol-woo of Saenuri Party and Rep. Shin Kyung-min of the New Politics Alliance for Democracy said that the National Intelligence Service (NIS) on Tuesday presented the assessment during a closed parliamentary audit on the spy agency.
According to the intelligence agency, Kim had a muscular damage in his right ankle due to a cyst in May, and had European doctors to perform surgery on him between September and October.
The NIS, however, added that Kim could suffer a relapse due to being overweight and smoking. Kim appeared in public on October 14 after his 40 days of absence from public view.
The spy agency also said Kim Jong-un is taking measures to root out forces associated with Jang Song-thaek, once a number two man in North Korea who was executed last year.
It said that in the process, more than ten party officials were executed just this year on various charges, including taking bribery and watching South Korean TV shows.
