Park Proposes S. Korea, China, Japan Hold 3-way Summit

President Park Geun-hye has proposed that South Korea, China and Japan hold a three-way summit.

Park made the proposal on Thursday when she co-chaired the 17th ASEAN Plus Three Summit in Naypyidaw, Myanmar.

Park said she hopes the three countries’ foreign ministers will hold a meeting in the near future. She said a three-nation summit would then take place based on that meeting. The president expressed such hopes as she noted that senior officials of the three countries met in Seoul last September.

Park’s proposal follows her meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping earlier on Monday during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit where the two shared the view that the foreign ministers of South Korea, China and Japan should hold a meeting within this year.
