Deaths in Nepal Top 3,700

With search efforts continuing two days after a devastating earthquake on Saturday, the number of deaths in Nepal has risen beyond three-thousand-700.

Citing the Ministry of Home Affairs’ spokesman Laxmi Dhakal and the local police, international news outlets updated on Monday that the death toll from the massive quake has soared to three-thousand-726.
The death toll was estimated at around two-thousand-500 on Sunday and at three-thousand-218 earlier on Monday, but the figure surged with more bodies found during search and rescue operations.

Operations are expanding into rural areas; however, rescue workers are finding it difficult to reach regions hit by the earthquake, as roads and communication networks have been destroyed by landslides.

The death toll is expected to rise further, as the full extent of damage emerges.

Previously, Nepalese Information Minister Minendra Rijal predicted that the death toll could reach four-thousand-500.
