Gov't to Tell Public to 'Return to Normal Life' in MERS Meeting Next Week

The government is expected to hold a government-wide meeting next week on the outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), and deliver a message to the public that they can safely return to their normal lives.

An official of the Prime Minister's Office said Friday that the prime minister will chair a pan-government meeting on the MERS response early next week, timed with the expected release of the last person remaining under quarantine.

The meeting will examine countermeasures on infectious diseases being drafted by various ministries. The government will also order a swift execution of the MERS-related supplementary budget during the meeting.

The government is expected to issue a message that the public can return to their normal lives especially with the peak summer vacation season under way.

Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn presided over daily government meetings on the MERS response since he took office but the meetings were placed under the health and welfare minister's leadership since July 13.
