Seoul, Tokyo to Hold Foreign Ministerial Talks in Seoul Monday

The South Korean government has officially announced that it has agreed to hold foreign ministerial talks with Japan in Seoul on Monday.

Seoul's Foreign Ministry said Friday that Minister Yun Byung-se will meet his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida and exchange views on pending bilateral concerns, including Japan's wartime sexual slavery issue.

Ahead of the Monday meeting, the 12th round of working-level talks led by ministry director level officials will take place Sunday.

Seoul and Tokyo held their eleventh director-level talks in Tokyo on December 15, but failed to narrow their differences on the matter.

Opinions on the Monday talks are divided. Some predict a dramatic breakthrough that will resolve the sex slavery issue once and for all while others still remain cautious over the wide gap between the two sides.
