Opposition Parties Agree to Seek Hearing on Allegations on Corporate Restructuring

Three opposition parties have decided to seek a hearing on allegations that top officials in the government and Cheong Wa Dae arbitrarily decided to pump tax payers’ money into ailing Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

The vice floor leaders of the main opposition Minjoo Party of Korea, minor opposition People’s Party and the Justice Party said they made the decision in a meeting at the National Assembly on Monday.

The Minjoo's Vice Floor Leader Park Wan-ju said that the three parties will pursue a hearing on the matter with a relevant parliamentary committee, along with hearings on four major scandals.

Park added that a hearing on the numerous deaths caused by toxic humidifier disinfectants will be held at a special parliamentary committee.

He also said that the three parties agreed to submit a motion calling for dismissing Patriots and Veterans Minister Park Sung-choon.

In addition, the three parties are said to have agreed to cooperate on efforts to pass a bill to scrap state-designated history books.
