Main Opposition Seeks Legislation on Reforms of Prosecution

The main opposition Minjoo Party of Korea(MPK) is seeking to create an agency dedicated to investigating corruption among high-ranking civil servants.

The party’s task force on restoring democracy decided on Wednesday to draw up legislation to reform the prosecution and plans to announce further details on Thursday.

Task force chief Representative Park Beom-kye said the legislation will stipulate who will be subject to the investigation of the agency. He said it may include judges, prosecutors, lawmakers, and civil servants with vice minister-level or higher ranks as subject to investigation.

The Minjoo and the minor opposition People’s Party agreed earlier in the week to cooperate on the matter and propose a related bill within this month in efforts to pass it during next month's extraordinary session.
