President Park Geun-hye vowed on Wednesday to bring about North Korea’s nuclear dismantlement and real changes on the Korean Peninsula.
She also pledged to deter North Korea’s provocations with strong national defense and continue to have in place strong sanctions and pressure on Pyongyang together with the international community.
The president made the remarks in a video message sent to a conference in Seoul marking the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Central Association for National Unification of Korea.
Park criticized the North for threatening South Korea’s security and the future of the South Korean people with its reckless nuclear program and continuous missile launches.
She stressed that in times of crisis, the people need to prepare for the nation's future in unity by building unshakable defense readiness while establishing a foundation for unification with patience and a long-term perspective.
The president said the Central Association for National Unification of Korea has played a key role in spreading hopes of unification to North Koreans via various activities. She also expressed hope that the association will lead the way to open a new era of a unified Korean Peninsula by bringing together the public's will for unification.
