Two opposition parties submitted a motion calling for the dismissal of Agriculture Minister Kim Jae-soo on Wednesday.
The People’s Party had initially planned to join the Minjoo Party of Korea(MPK) and the Justice Party in submitting the motion, but decided not to.
MPK spokesman Gi Dong-min said the MPK decided at a general meeting of lawmakers on Tuesday that it would push ahead with the move. Park Wan-joo, deputy floor leader of the MPK, and Representative Choo Hye-sun of the Justice Party delivered the motion to the National Assembly Secretariat.
The floor leaders of the three opposition parties had agreed on September fifth to call for Kim's dismissal, calling him unfit for the job.
The dismissal motion is expected to be put to a vote at a plenary session of the National Assembly on Friday.
