N. Korea Ranks Bottom in Internet Usage

Radio Free Asia reported Wednesday that North Korea has ranked at the bottom among countries around the world in terms of Internet usage.

Citing the State of Broadband 2016 report released last week by UNESCO and the International Telecommunication Union, RFA said that the North is the sole country that blocks its people from personally accessing the Internet.

The report found that North Korea ranked 146th among 147 countries assessed, with less than one percent of its people using the Internet. Nauru, a small island country in the South Pacific, came in last.

RFA said that the North is also presumed to rank at the bottom in terms of the ratio of households equipped with Internet connections and the number of people using ultrafast broadband services. It added that no relevant materials are available to confirm the state of Internet usage in North Korea.

The report said that 27 countries, including North Korea, have no government plans to promote the use of broadband Internet service.
