China says plans for a joint crackdown with South Korea on illegal fishing have not been canceled, but will resume at an appropriate time.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters Tuesday China and South Korea are in talks to resolve a dispute over a maritime clash earlier this month in South Korean waters.
South Korea says Chinese fishermen rammed and sank a South Korean Coast Guard speedboat.
Seoul and Beijing had planned to launch a five-day crackdown from Wednesday, in which Coast Guard officials of the two countries monitor illegal fishing activities within each other’s exclusive economic zones(EEZs).
But Chinese authorities said last Friday those plans were halted.
