The Voice of America reported Wednesday that North Korea hopes U.S.Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will defeat his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the upcoming election in November.
Japanese journalist Keisuke Fukuda told VOA following an eight-day visit to North Korea in late September that officials at North Korea’s government and public agencies show great interest in the U.S. presidential election and appear to wait for the outcome cautiously with expectations for change.
Fukuda, an editor at Japan's weekly magazine Toyo Keizai, said that some are apparently expecting that the election of Trump will bring about certain changes.
He quoted other officials as saying that Pyongyang finds it easier to talk to the Republican Party than the Democratic Party. According to Fukuda, some North Koreans think that Clinton has little interest in the North.
