UN Chief Mulls His Role for S. Korea after Stepping down

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Friday that he will think about the role he can play for South Korea when he returns home in mid-January after stepping down as UN chief.
In an interview with Reuters news agency held at UN headquarters in New York, Ban made this remark in reference to his plans for next year after leaving the UN.
He said that he "understands there are naturally expectations from many people in Korea that he should make himself available for a better future of Korea." He said that once he returns home, he will discuss what kind of role he can play for South Korea's future with some friends and advisers.
Ban said his "options are still open" and he will consider the best way to make use of his time and experience as secretary-general. He added that upon his return, he will also tell the Korean people about what he has achieved in the past decade as secretary-general.
During the interview, Ban also expressed concern on the delay in sanctions by the UN Security Council over North Korea's nuclear tests.
He criticized the Security Council for taking what he called an “unnecessarily long time in expressing their positions."  He said "that kind of sense of lack of unity gives some good excuse for the member states like North Korea not to abide by the resolution."
