President Park Geun-hye’s job approval rating has plunged to an unprecedented low for the second straight week as she hangs onto her political life due to the Choi Soon-sil scandal.
A survey conducted on about one-thousand people by Gallup Korea between Tuesday and Thursday showed that only four percent of the respondents thought the president was doing a good job. The record low is one percentage point lower than last week.
Negative views on Park's job performance surged by three percentage points from the week before to 93 percent, also posting a new high.
The main opposition Democratic Party(DP) continued to top the approval rating among political parties with 34 percent, up two percentage points from last week. The DP was followed by the minor People’s Party with 16 percent. The ruling Saenuri Party, meanwhile, saw its approval rating plunge to the lowest level yet of 12 percent, down three percentage points from last week.
The survey had a 95 percent confidence level with a margin of error of plus or minus three-point-one percentage points.
