'China Can't Support Korean Pop Culture without Resolution of THAAD Issue'

A Chinese diplomat says the issue of the deployment of an advanced U.S. THAAD antimissile system to South Korea should be resolved, while denying that China has slapped a ban on Korean pop culture.

Councilor Fang Kun at the Chinese Foreign Ministry told reporters on Tuesday that it is hard for Beijing to adopt a policy supportive of Korean pop culture unless the THAAD issue is resolved first.

Regarding growing anti-China sentiment in South Korea, the Chinese official said that people should think about which country offended the people of the other country first, and asserted that Chinese people were offended first by the THAAD issue.

He added that Korean entertainers are having difficulties in China not because of a ban by the Chinese government but because of anti-Korea sentiment among Chinese people over the THAAD deployment plan.
