As Choi Soon-sil refuses to appear for parliamentary hearings, lawmakers went ahead to find her in her detention cell to interrogate her.

Members of the National Assembly’s special committee probing the Choi Soo-sil scandal met the prime suspect on Monday.

Aside from the committee’s chairman, Kim Sung-tae, three lawmakers each from the ruling Saenuri Party and the main opposition Democratic Party(DP) as well as one legislator from the Justice Party are taking part in the inquiry.

Choi and ex-presidential aides An Chong-bum and Jeong Ho-seong on Sunday expressed their refusal to attend the hearing that lawmakers wanted to stage at the Seoul Detention Center.

The special committee questioned An and Jeong at another detention facility located in Seoul’s southern district.

Two lawmakers each from the Saenuri Party, DP and minor People’s Party were assigned to carry out that inquiry, which took place on Monday afternoon.

Lawmakers will also file complaints against Choi and the two former presidential officials for failing to appear at the witness hearing. Rep. Kim Seong-tae said his committee will apply contempt of the parliament.
