A newly enacted special law will allow the launch of a committee which will investigate the hull of the sunken Sewol ferry and recover the bodies of the victims of the ferry disaster.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said that the committee will be launched soon as the related special law is set to take effect from Tuesday.
The law is based on a compromise between a bill proposed by Democratic Party lawmakers and that by Liberty Korea Party legislators.
The committee will comprise of five members selected by the National Assembly and three persons selected by the victims’ families. At least six of the members should have five or more years of work experience in ship and maritime accidents.
