Anchor: Member states of the UN Security Council (UNSC) have strongly condemned North Korea's latest ballistic missile launch. The council issued a press statement on Monday urging North Korea to immediately show sincere commitment to denuclearization through concrete action.
Our Kim Bum-soo reports.
Report: The council demanded North Korea halt all further nuclear and ballistic missile tests, adding it was ready to impose more sanctions on the regime.
While calling Sunday's missile test a “highly destabilizing behavior,” the 15-member council said the launch contributed to the development of nuclear weapons delivery systems.
Unanimously adopted by all UNSC members, the statement came just a day before the council holds a session to discuss how to respond to the North's latest move.
UN ambassadors from the UK and France also expressed concerns.

"The United Kingdom strongly condemns this latest provocation from the DPRK regime, which demonstrates yet again what a threat to international peace and security they are. It is imperative that the Security Council responds and we will be working with the penholder on whatever products they have in mind."
(Reporter: "Are you expecting tougher sanctions?”)
"The UK favors tougher sanctions."
The French ambassador also called for tougher measures.

"We favor a swift and firm reaction of the Security Council after the missile test. France has already reacted on the national basis, but I think it's up to the Security Council to illustrate maximum firmness on this issue, no doubt."
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued statement through his spokesman on Monday, repeating that the North must stop now.

"The Secretary-General condemns the launch of another ballistic missile by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). This action is in violation of Security Council resolutions and a threat to peace and security in the region. The Secretary-General calls on the DPRK to ensure full compliance with its international obligations and return to the path of denuclearization."
