Moon's Adviser says Controversial Remarks his Own, Not Government's

President Moon Jae-in's foreign policy adviser explained that controversial remarks he made at a seminar in Washington last week were his own and not the government's.

Presidential Special Adviser Moon Chung-in made the remark during a seminar hosted by the Asia Society in New York on Monday.

Speaking at a seminar in Washington on Friday, the Yonsei University distinguished professor said Seoul may consult with the U.S. about scaling down South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises and the deployment of U.S. strategic weapons on the Korean Peninsula if Pyongyang suspends its nuclear program.

Moon Chung-in said on Monday that he only pitches ideas as a special adviser. He said he is neither paid by the government nor part of the decision-making process.
