Lawmakers Seek Special Law on Confiscating Choi Soon-sil's Assets

Representative An Min-suk of the ruling Democratic Party(DP) says a group of 23 legislators have agreed to pursue the enactment of a special law on confiscating the hidden assets of Choi Soon-sil and her family and putting them into state coffers. Choi is the longtime confidante of former President Park Geun-hye who is a central figure in the influence-peddling scandal that rattled the nation last year.

During a news conference at the National Assembly on Tuesday, An said the special law is aimed at blocking corruption from taking root in the country.

Lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties are taking part in the effort to make the special law.

The special law seeks to set up a committee on probing the undue profits and assets of central figures of the influence-peddling scandal. The committee would seek to get warrants to look into such assets and collect identified properties and place them into state coffers.
