Foreign Ministry Advises Extra Safety Caution during Overseas Trips

The Foreign Ministry has urged South Koreans to exercise extra caution when travelling overseas this summer, noting terrorist attacks in Europe and unstable security situations in border regions between China and North Korea.
Ambassador for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Han Dong-man sought travel agencies’ cooperation for ensuring the safety of South Korean tourists overseas.
He said that more South Koreans face or experience dangerous situations in foreign countries with an increase in the number of South Koreans traveling overseas.
The ambassador also called on South Korean tourists to observe safety guidelines and the laws of the countries they visit, noting the detention of South Korean missionaries by Chinese police in a region near the China-North Korea border.
The ministry said that 12-thousand-855 South Korean tourists suffered damage in foreign countries last year, up 55 percent from 2015.
