The 8th U.S. Army held a ceremony on Tuesday to mark the opening of its new headquarters in Pyeongtaek City, Gyeonggi Province.
The 8th Army said that the ceremony was held at Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, along with the unveiling of the monument of General Walton Walker which was relocated from the Yongsan base.
In 2003, South Korea and the U.S. agreed on the relocation of the U.S. base in Yongsan in central Seoul to Pyeongtaek City, south of the capital.
The 8th Army headquarters account for most of the some 30-thousand U.S. troops stationed in South Korea.
