S. Korea, US Agree to Open Talks to Revise Missile Guideline

South Korea and the U.S. plan to open negotiations aimed at allowing Seoul to load heavier warheads on ballistic missiles, in response to North Korea's latest ICBM launch.

Currently, the bilateral missile agreement stipulates that South Korea can load its ballistic missiles with a range of 800 kilometers with warheads no heavier than 500 kilograms. The two sides are expected to discuss increasing the limits in the planned talks.

Presidential press secretary Yoon Young-chan told reporters Saturday Chung Eui-yong, head of the presidential National Security Office, and his U.S. counterpart H.R. McMaster have agree to open talks as soon as possible.
