Haley: No Point in Having UNSC Session on N.Korea

United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley says that no UN Security Council(UNSC) emergency session will be sought on Monday in response to North Korea's latest missile launch.

Haley on Sunday released a statement, saying that there is no point in having an emergency session if it produces nothing of consequence.

She argued that holding a meeting is worse than doing nothing if it would only send the message to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un that the international community is unwilling to seriously challenge him.

While noting that the Pyongyang regime is already subject to numerous UNSC resolutions that it violates with impunity, Haley stressed that China must decide whether it is finally willing to take the vital step.

The statement came in response to the North's intercontinental ballistic missile(ICBM) demonstration on Friday night. The North's state-run Korean Central News Agency said that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un expressed "great satisfaction" with the missile launch. Kim said the second flight test of an ICBM proved that his country can strike the U.S. mainland.

Analysts said that the North proved that Los Angeles and Chicago are now in range of its ICBM. The Hwasong-14 missile reached a maximum height of three-thousand 725 kilometers, traveling nearly one-thousand kilometers before landing in waters off Japan.
