As South Korea and China remain at odds over the deployment of the U.S. THAAD antimissile system on the Korean Peninsula, the two sides this year are expected to mark the 25th anniversary of their bilateral diplomatic relations separately.

According to diplomatic sources in Beijing on Monday, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries will hold an event to mark the 25th anniversary on August 23rd, a day before the South Korean Embassy in China holds its own commemorative ceremony.
The Chinese association is said to have requested a South Korean to give a congratulatory speech for its event. It is considered very rare for China to arrange these events separately.
The two nations are expected to drastically scale down their events and the number of participants.
