Trade Watchdog Scores Top Grade in Global Survey

South Korea's Fair Trade Commission(FTC) has received the top grade among the world's antitrust watchdogs in a global assessment survey.

The commission said Tuesday that it earned five stars, or the "elite" grade, along with the U.S., France and Germany in this year's Rating Enforcement survey conducted by the Global Competition Review, which is a leading global journal on competition law.

South Korea outperformed the European Union and Japan whose trade regulators received four-and-a-half stars or the "very good" rating.

The Global Competition Review said that South Korea's Fair Trade Commission "remains the top competition enforcer in Asia and indeed one of the best in the world."

The FTC advanced to the top spot for the first time last year. The review particularly noted the FTC sanction imposing an over one trillion won fine on global IT group Qualcomm for abusing its domineering market status.
