Moon Conducts Military Reshuffle for Top-Brass Posts

President Moon Jae-in has named current Air Force chief Jeong Kyeong-doo the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS).
Jeong graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1982 and was promoted to the Air Force chief of staff in 2015.
In the military reshuffle announced on Tuesday, the president also made personnel decisions for other top-brass posts and promoted six lieutenant generals to generals.
Air Force Lt. Gen. Lee Wang-keun, chief of the JCS's military support office, will replace Jeong as the Air Force chief of staff.
Lt. Gen. Kim Yong-woo, head of the JCS's strategy and planning office, was appointed the next Army chief of staff, while Army Lt. Gen. Kim Byung-ju was named the deputy commander of the Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command.
Moon appointed Lt. Gen. Park Jong-jin the First Army commander and Lt. Gen. Park Han-ki the commander of the Second Operations Command. Army Lt. Gen. Kim Un-yong will be promoted to the Third Army commander.
A government official said that the personnel decisions were made in consideration of their expertise and capabilities to address increasing missile and nuclear threats from North Korea while stably but strongly carrying out defense reform.
