Prosecutor General Apologizes over Past Cases

Prosecutor General Moon Moo-il has issued a deep apology to the public for the prosecution's failure to abide by due process and guarantee human rights in some major cases during past authoritarian governments.

Moon is the first prosecutor general in South Korean history to apologize over the prosecution's handling of past cases.

Moon told reporters at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office on Tuesday that the prosecution is aiming to change to become transparent, true and open.

He vowed to make a transparent prosecution by disclosing the entire decision-making process in investigations while maintaining political neutrality.

On high-profile cases, Moon pledged to introduce a system in which outside experts review probes and indictments.
