Pres. Moon Underlines Need to Restore Values of Public Service Broadcasting

President Moon Jae-in said restoring values of public service broadcasting and the freedom of the press is among the most pressing tasks for the head of the Korea Communications Commission(KCC).

Moon made the remark on Tuesday when he presented a letter of appointment to KCC Chairman Lee Hyo-sung at the presidential office.

Moon said he believes that broadcasting, public broadcasting in particular, saw the most serious and devastating collapse in the past decade in South Korea’s society.

He said that many side effects emerged as previous administrations sought to control broadcasting to use it for its own purposes, and that such a practice must never be repeated.

The new KCC head replied that he will exert best efforts to produce impartial broadcasting that will not be wavered by any government influences.
