Prime Minister Instructs Statewide Inspection of Mistreatment of Low Officials

Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon has instructed every government agency to review how senior officials treat those of lower rank with a keen eye for mistreatment and abuse.

The review is part of President Moon Jae-in's response to a recent high-profile case of a four-star general and his wife allegedly ordering soldiers assigned to their residence to carry out a wide range of inappropriate household and personal tasks.

Government agencies have been ordered to interview every single employee, and to report back to the prime minister with findings by Wednesday of next week.

If there are instances of mistreatment, the agencies will need to include in their report how the situation will be resolved.

The Prime Minister’s Secretariat will use the agency reports to craft broader policies aimed at preventing mistreatment of subordinates by the end of the month.
