LKP, Bareun Party Lawmakers Agree to Create Committee for Merger

Lawmakers from the conservative Liberty Korea Party and the Bareun Party have agreed to create a committee to pursue the merger of their parties.

The decision was made at a meeting on Wednesday attended by a number of three-term lawmakers from both parties.

Liberty Korea Party(LKP) lawmaker Lee Cheol-woo told reporters after the meeting that the public is anxious about a split in the conservative bloc.

The lawmakers didn’t pin down when the committee would be launched, but a working-level group will be created to pursue their initiatives.

Lee said he will report a list of committee members at the party’s supreme council meeting on Friday.

Bareun Party lawmaker Kim Young-woo also said that he would deliver a proposal to create a working-level committee to the leadership.

Eleven LKP and four Bareun Party lawmakers attended the meeting. The number is up three members from an initial meeting last month.
