S. Korea, US to Finalize Plan on Organizing Future Combined Forces Command

The Defense Ministry says South Korea and the United States hope to finalize a plan for a future combined command system later this month.

The two countries are expected to review and approve the plan over the course of two meetings, the annual Security Consultative Meeting(SCM) and the Military Committee Meeting(MCM) on October 27th and 28th.

The new command system would replace the current South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command when South Korea eventually regains wartime operational control of its forces from the United States.

It would name a South Korean general as commander with a U.S. general as deputy commander.

The ministry said it plans to devise standard operating procedures and guidelines for the new command next year.
