DP Chief Denounces Ex-Pres. Lee for Remarks about Political Retaliation

Ruling Democratic Party Chairwoman Choo Mi-ae has called on former President Lee Myung-bak to apologize to the public for saying that a probe into the military cyber command’s alleged smear campaign is political retaliation.

Choo said during a meeting of the party’s supreme council on Monday that the former president has described the current government’s efforts to eradicate deep-rooted corrupt practices as political retaliation and has denounced such endeavors.

She said that it is inappropriate for Lee to make such a comment as a person who had treated the military as private investigators and as slaves to power.

Choo said that by making the political retaliation claim instead of providing a thorough explanation on the allegations surrounding the cyber command, Lee has made himself look even lamer.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Liberty Korea Party(LKP) warned that the government’s efforts to root out irregularities will come to haunt the ruling camp and the people will end up turning their backs on the government and the ruling party.

LKP floor spokesman, Jeong Yong-ki, said in a statement Sunday that with the latest comments, the former president was questioning whether it is desirable for the incumbent government to wield its sword toward previous governments instead of focusing on the economy and security.
