Foreign Minister to Visit China to Fine Tune Summit Agenda

Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha plans to visit China as early as next week to fine tune President Moon Jae-in’s trip to Beijing and the agenda for his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping scheduled for next month.

A government source said Monday that the top envoy will accompany Moon on his visit to Southeast Asia until Wednesday and visit China as early as next week.

Kang is expected to meet her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi to discuss a specific schedule and agenda for the summit.

The presidential office announced last week that Moon and Xi agreed on the South Korean leader’s visit during a bilateral meeting in Vietnam on Saturday.

The two leaders are expected to discuss normalization in exchanges and cooperation following the two nations’ agreement to end a diplomatic row over the installment of the U.S. THAAD antimissile system in South Korea. A resolution of the North Korean nuclear program is also expected to be on the agenda.

It will be Kang’s first visit to China since her inauguration in June.
