Top Office: Pres. Moon's Southeast Asia Tour Normalized Ties with China

The presidential office has assessed that President Moon Jae-in’s Southeast Asia tour widened South Korea’s diplomatic horizon and completed the basic design of Seoul’s foreign affairs and security policies.
Presidential Spokesman Park Soo-hyun revealed the assessment during a briefing at the top office on Wednesday.
In particular, Park said that Moon's summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Da Nang, Vietnam last Saturday led to the normalization of South Korea-China ties which had been strained due to Seoul's decision to install the THAAD antimissile system.
Park said that through the summit, Moon and Xi reaffirmed the two nations' agreement announced last month to enhance their ties and agreed to swiftly normalize exchanges and cooperation in all areas.
Park said that based on the consensus, Moon and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang shared views on ways to protect South Korean firms in China and to boost bilateral exchanges and cooperation earlier on Monday in Manila.
A senior official of the top office told reporters that the summit was significant in that Moon and Xi ascertained a working-level consensus on the THAAD issue. The official said that the topic isn't expected to come up when Moon visits China in December where he will discuss promoting future-oriented ties.
The official said that Moon and Xi had brought closure to the THAAD topic.
