Moon Credits Religious Communities for Peaceful Candlelight Vigils

President Moon Jae-in has credited the country’s religious communities for their contribution to the successful candlelight vigils that led to the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye.

Moon acknowledged their important role during a luncheon meeting with the top leaders of the country’s seven major religions at the presidential office Wednesday.

He said it was largely thanks to the power of religion that the candlelight rallies were conducted peacefully and in a culturally refined and honorable manner, despite the huge number of people gathering for them.

While praising the religious groups for helping revive democracy in the nation, the president also urged them to help restart inter-Korean exchanges.
