Parliament Approves Appointment of BAI Chief, Supreme Court Justices

The National Assembly has passed motions seeking the appointments of the head of a state audit agency and two top court judges.

During a plenary session Friday, on the last working day of the year, parliament reached a last-minute bipartisan agreement paving the way for the appointment of Choi Jae-hyung as the chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection and Ahn Cheol-sang and Min Yu-suk as Supreme Court justices.

Just a week earlier, the rival parties had failed to vote on the motions amid conflicts over the extension of the special parliamentary committee on constitutional revision.

Choi will fill the vacuum in the BAI's leadership left by the retirement of former chairman Hwang Chan-hyun on December first.

Ahn and Min will replace outgoing Supreme Court Justices Kim Young-duck and Park Bo-young, both of whom will retire on January first.
